TRUST & UNDERSTANDING...
The first meeting is an initial discussion to explore what you may be looking for from therapy and to determine whether counselling may be helpful for you. It is important that you feel you can trust and work well with your therapist and this session can provide you with an opportunity to ask any questions and to assess whether you feel comfortable to proceed with therapy. Similarly it is important that I feel I am able to help you and I will assess this honestly during our initial discussion. If we both feel we can work together we can make a contract for a number of sessions or on an open ended basis.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, however this is something that can be discussed on an individual basis. I offer face to face sessions in my private office in central Teddington (located right by a main bus stop and 5 minutes from a national rail station) or online via a secure platform. I also offer ‘walk and talk’ which provides the opportunity to be in the open air and surrounded by nature, both of which can bring many benefits. Walking side by side and being outdoors can feel much less intimidating and more comfortable for some with the process of moving forward together being symbolic.
I offer both short and long term counselling and the timescale can be discussed once we have agreed we will be working together. For longer term work I recommend periodic review sessions to ensure you continue to get what you need from therapy.
If you prefer a more immersive approach; would like some support to work through something you are grappling with; or if you aren’t sure about the regular commitment of weekly or fortnightly therapy, I also offer half day and full day therapy or coaching sessions.
